Brisbane: Borallon Correctional Centre sent into lockdown after prisoners scale roof

B

A group of prisoners have scaled the roof of a Queensland jail, plunging the centre into lockdown.

Queensland Corrective Services confirmed six prisoners are currently on the roof of the Borallon Training and Correctional Centre, west of Brisbane.

The incident started about midday on Sunday.

Footage from Nine News shows the group of men sitting atop the roof as police wait on the floor below.

A QCS spokeswoman said the prison had been locked down to ensure the safety of officers and other prisoners housed there.

“Staff are communicating with all prisoners at the centre,” the spokeswoman said.

“The matter is ongoing and evolving.”

About 808 people are incarcerated at the Bollaran jail.
