Surry Hills: Man critical after ambulance crash, head injuries

A 32-year-old man has spent the night in hospital after he was hit by an ambulance on its way to an urgent call.

Shortly after midnight, police were called to Elizabeth Street in Surry Hills, following reports an ambulance had struck a pedestrian.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene for serious head injuries.

It is believed the ambulance crew was responding to an urgent call for assistance.

The man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
