Pedestrian struck, cop car hit in wild car chase across Adelaide

The moment a suburban cricket match was interrupted by a wild car chase in Adelaide has been captured in incredible footage.

Innocent bystanders were struck by an out-of-control stolen car after its driver allegedly took part in a wild pursuit that included a dash across a cricket pitch, police say.

The chase happened in Adelaide on Sunday after the red Holden Commodore’s owner spotted his car being driven in Largs Bay at about 3.20pm.

Shortly after, the owner approached the thieves and was allegedly threatened by a person in the car who was holding an axe before driving off.

Police joined the pursuit which carried on across the backstreets of North Adelaide.

The car allegedly crashed into two people before hitting a police car on the corner of Barton Terrace West.

The vehicle soon ploughed through parklands and onto a cricket pitch where a match was underway, according to player Kuldeep Dhungana.

“The car was coming straight to us but luckily the driver changed the direction,” he told Nine News.

“It could have easily been a lot worse because the speed that car was going was really huge, even a small collision could be life-threatening.”

No one was injured in any of the crashes.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later at Bowden, with its two occupants swiftly arrested by police.

A 29-year-old Parkside man and a Para Hills West man, 26, were arrested and are expected to be charged with a string of offences.
